February 1 st of each year has been designated as
POW/MIA Internet Blackout Day.

The POW/MIA Freedom Fighters were the first ones that started the POW/MIA Freedom Fighters Internet Blackout 9 years ago (and will be 10 years as of February 1, 2008.)

There are very few left from when I started so long ago. We all know who those folks are that won't give up. That are doing this work for the true reason. That stay on when the work gets hard. There is no paycheck at the end of the day, week, month. Most of our costs comes out of our own pockets. Why do we do it? Because we love this country we live in and we honor those men and women that fought and continue to fight for this country and we honor them by staying on the job to make sure they come home and their families get answers! That is why we are here. We don't want the public to forget. That is also why we run projects like the POW/MIA Freedom Fighters Internet Blackout Day.

We hope you will join us in remembering and honoring them by blacking out your site in silence so all can remember and not forget.

This year, there will not be:

1) A sign up; 2) A prior commitment award: 3) A participant award if you participated.

We are hoping you are doing this for our POW/MIA's and not for any special recognition you may receive for participating. However, we hope you do paricipate!

PLEASE NOTE!!!!! If you DO participate and use the wording "9th Annual", "8th Annual", etc., POW/MIA Internet Blackout on Feb. 1st, or have any of our participant or commitment awards on your site for this event, etc., since we have been the ONLY organization running this event online for 10 years as of Feruary 1, 2008, then you MUST link back to us so others can be involved. Further, no one other than our graphic department is authorized to make graphics for this event without our specific written permission. See copyright information below.

Seriously, we are having problems with stealing of graphics, linking directly to graphics thereby stealing our bandwidth, etc. Please respect this event and the reasons for it and abide by our copyrights. Thank you!

This POW/MIA Internet Blackout is being done in Honor of our POW/MIA's and in Commitment to our Continuing Work Toward a Full Accounting of our POW/MIA's !

This is a 24 hour blackout.

For Those Without Webpages:
Many have asked how they can participate if they do not have web pages. Our advice is to use your imagination and do something extra on that day to spread the word:

Get together with other members and activists and place an ad in your local paper

Call your local radio or TV station and ask them to have a minute of silence on behalf of the missing

Whatever you can think of...We encourage you to do whatever practical comes to your mind.

If you are unable to download the above files and/or unable to unzip the downloaded file, use the links above to VIEW the page you will be using, then save that page and the graphic to your harddrive.

This downloaded/saved page will be the page you use on February 1st.

You can use your wordpad to Edit this downloaded/saved page. The only changes that need to be done are as follows:

IMPORTANT-If using WordPad to edit the page (and not a webpage editor), AFTER editing the page for your site, be sure and save it as a TEXT DOCUMENT, and be sure and give it the html extention.

You will use the 24 hour Blackout Page at the main entrance of your site or POW/MIA site in lieu of your current page.

Please, use only the blackout pages and graphics provided here.

IMPORTANT-Be sure you RE-NAME your index.html OR POW/MIA page FIRST (whichever page you will be replacing with this Blackout Page.)

Then, re-name the Blackout page you will be using, to your index.html (or whatever html file the Blackout page will be replacing.)

If you do not do this, you risk copying over your index/POWMIA page and losing it unless you have it backed-up.

If using tables, please make them invisible by using the border=0 tag.
